HISTORIC SITE PHOTOS
Rutland Heights Hospital was constructed in 1895 as a hospital for patients with tuberculosis. The original buildings of the hospital were demolished, however these photos give viewers a glimpse into the past of this historically significant site.

CURRENT SITE PHOTOS
In 2005, fourteen years after the hospital closed its doors, Rutland Heights State Hospital was demolished, leaving the site vacant. There are currently no buildings on this highly developable property and it has had full environmental remediation, allowing for ample opportunity for mixed use development at Rutland Heights.

OTHER STATE HOSPITAL REUSE PROJECTS
Reuse and redevelopment of former state hospitals has become a familiar trend across Massachusetts in recent decades. These sites, often containing huge and decaying institutional buildings, are often very valuable pieces of real-estate for towns.
